Fillers for Lip Augmentation

Dermal fillers such as Juvéderm® work very well for adding both volume and definition to the lips. This injectable treatment requires only a very short visit. While there will be some swelling and perhaps mild bruising, there is no downtime. Results from lip fillers can last six months or longer. Dr. Shuster will administer the injections in a subtle and elegant way, never making you appear “overfilled”; only natural.

Fat and Tissue Transfer for Lip Augmentation

Dr. Shuster will often use a patient’s very own tissue to add volume or improve the definition of the lips. This tissue to be grafted is usually either fat or fascia (connective tissue made of collagen). Both are readily available and can be acquired in a very inconspicuous manner so as not to leave a visible mark. 

When lip enhancement is done using a patient’s own fat, it is injected just like a dermal filler. However, before this can happen, the fat must be removed from another part of the body (such as the stomach, buttocks, or thighs) using liposuction

Once the fat is removed, it will be purified and then placed into a syringe for the injections. 

When fascia is used, it will first be removed from an area of the body using a small incision. Once harvested, it will then be placed inside the lips through tiny incisions around the corners of and within the mouth.

Results with using tissue or fat for lip augmentation are very long-lasting and sometimes even permanent.

The “lip roll” is a surgical procedure in which Dr. Shuster will create an incision on the inside of the lip and then “roll” the lip out to achieve a fuller, more voluptuous position. The lip is secured in this position, and the results are permanent.
