Juvéderm: Rejuvenating Versatility

Once Juvéderm has been injected into the skin, it works to hydrate, replenish, and renew the facial contours. This outstanding family of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers can address a wide variety of imperfections and is most popular for smoothing out folds and wrinkles, enhancing the lips, and restoring an overall more youthful and inviting countenance. Made with Hylacross™ technology, Juvéderm’s cross-linked molecules make its consistency smoother and more malleable than most dermal fillers.

What Can Juvéderm Do?

  • Adds youthful volume to the mid-face
  • Reduces the appearance of nasolabial folds and marionette lines
  • Softens the appearance of creases and wrinkles
  • Plumps up the lips and provides structure and hydration
  • Adds definition and volume to a weak or recessed chin

How Does Juvéderm Work?

Juvéderm consists of a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural molecule that is already present in your body. This means that while some dermal fillers are derived from animal substances, Juvéderm is not. Hyaluronic acid is a moisture-binding material that helps make the skin youthful because it keeps it hydrated, plump, strong, and firm.

When we get into our late 30s and 40s, though, our innate hyaluronic acid supply is slowly depleted. Because Juvéderm’s active ingredient is hyaluronic acid, it can give you plump, more youthful-looking skin and lips when injected. It will bind itself to the water molecules within your skin, achieving volume and lift.

Dr. Shuster also did filler work under my eyes, nasal lines, and lips. I am so thrilled with the results. Very natural, a perfect subtle enhancement. Dr. Shuster is a perfectionist and an artist.

What to Expect During a Juvéderm Treatment

Before your Juvéderm injections are administered, your skin will be cleansed and numbed with a topical anesthetic, if required. Treatment with Juvéderm is a very quick and easy process. As no pre-test is needed, the treatment can be carried out immediately. A session generally takes 30 minutes, but the time will differ depending on your specific treatment plan.

During treatment, the crystal-clear Juvéderm gel is injected into the skin in tiny amounts with a very fine needle. The gel will produce volume under the wrinkle, which is lifted up and smoothed out. When used to enhance the lips or facial contours, Juvéderm reshapes and refines the treated areas.

Are There Risks with Juvéderm?

Juvéderm was FDA-approved in 2006 and is very safe when administered properly. Rare risks can include unintentional injection into a blood vessel, permanent scarring, vision abnormalities, blindness, or stroke. This is why selecting a trained, experienced, certified, and licensed medical professional is so important.

Downtime and Results

Immediately after your Juvéderm treatment, you can expect slight redness, swelling, firmness, tenderness, or an itching sensation in the treated area. This is a normal result of the injections. Some patients also experience bumpy skin at the injection site.

After a lip treatment, the lips will become swollen. This can persist for a few days and up to a week. All of these side effects are temporary, but if you’re worried about any of them, please let Dr. Shuster know during your consultation.
