Breast implant incision options can be utilized to personalize the breast augmentation procedure. Some options, such as periareolar and inframammary incisions, are placed on the breasts themselves. Others, such as umbilical insertion (through the belly button) and transaxillary incisions (through the armpits) place incisions away from the breasts, entirely preventing scars on the breast mound.

Board-certified plastic surgeon Bernard Shuster has found enormous success with the transaxillary breast augmentation option. This breast augmentation incision is only offered by a handful of plastic surgeons, even though it can help to reduce trauma, shorten recovery time, and improve results – all factors that have made it Dr. Shuster’s preferred method of performing breast augmentation.

He has offered the transaxillary technique for more than 15 years.

Why Consider Breast Implant Revision?

There are several reasons to consider breast implant revision. Some of the most common are:

  • Implant rupture or deflation
  • Capsular contracture
  • Implant imperfections (ripples, creases, etc.)
  • A desire to change implant shape or size
  • A desire to switch to a different type of breast implant

If you are considering a revision procedure, get in touch to schedule a consultation and learn how Dr. Shuster can help.

Can the Transaxillary Incision be Used for Revision Breast Augmentation?

Transaxillary incisions are placed in the natural folds of the armpit. This allows Dr. Shuster access to underlying tissue without impacting breast tissue or muscle. It also helps to preserve nipple sensitivity. During revision surgery, these same incisions can be used to remove and replace implants.

It is possible that transaxillary incisions can be used even if your initial procedure was not performed in this way. However, it is not always possible to offer this particular option. Dr. Shuster is one of very few plastic surgeons who offer transaxillary implant placement and one of even fewer who offers revision surgery with this option. The most certain way to determine if you could benefit from transaxillary breast implant revision is through a one-on-one consultation at our office. We are located in Hollywood, Florida, and welcome patients from all nearby areas of the state.
